ROOTS & WINGS

Faith Formation & Ministry Resources for UU Congregations

Partners for Your Journey...

Welcome! We are the Roots & Wings collaborative, a network of congregational resourcing groups who support UU leaders as they do the work of small group spiritual development, member integration, religious education, worship and so much more.

Learn more about each of us below. Our work differs but we share the mission of providing congregations with partners so their ministries can deepen ("roots") and thrive ("wings").

Consider this a set of doorways into potential partners. We'd love to walk alongside you!

Beloved Conversations

Beloved Conversations--the signature offering of The Fahs Collaborative at Meadville Lombard Theological School-- is a program for Unitarian Universalists seeking to embody racial justice as a spiritual practice. Using a small-group ministry format, the Beloved Conversations curriculum creates a supportive space for participants to talk about their own experiences with race and racism, while identifying places where growth is necessary, both within themselves and in the systems they are a part of. As an instrument of faith formation, our program offers participants a chance to learn the tools and summon the skills of vulnerability, self-understanding, compassion, grace, learning, risk-taking, and healing that lay the foundation for deep transformation in ourselves, our relationships, and our communities. In Beloved Conversations, we are here to heal the impact of racism on our lives, in order to get free together.

Faith Forward

Faith Forward: From Visitor to Leader is a guided path for Unitarian Universalists to follow in their congregations, helping them navigate from building connections early on, to finding their sense of belonging as a member, to serving as a leader and boldly living their faith. UU congregations of all sizes use the Faith Forward program to help people deepen their connection to the congregation and Unitarian Universalism. It includes more than a year’s worth of offerings for newcomers, new and long-time members, and leaders. The materials, which include facilitator guides, participant handouts, videos, customizable promo materials, and implementation guides for staff and lay leaders, are designed to be accessible and easy for lay leaders to use.

LaunchPad

LaunchPad is a collaborative back-end ministry to support brave and bold front-line ministries. So often, entrepreneurial ministries struggle not for lack of vision or skill, but because they lack the institutional back-end support enjoyed by established organizations. Specifically, we fulfill this mission through coaching and back-end support of entrepreneurial ministries, through providing monthly theme-based subscriptions to off-the-shelf ministry materials, in collaboration with the Church of the Larger Fellowship--we call that ministry “Faith Rocket.” And through occasional organizational consulting.

Nourish: UU Dinner Church Consultants

Nourish works with congregations and other communities to cultivate thriving dinner church ministries, nourishing bodies and spirits through food and ritual. We believe that dinner church is an antidote to our ever more isolating and divisive world, and that it taps into the heart of what it means to be in community: breaking bread and sharing what is meaningful.
Nourish founders Aisha and Emily will leverage our expertise and creativity to support your unique needs! We have experience crafting and leading many forms of dinner church: online, family ministry, youth and young adult ministry, at retreats, for ministerial candidating events, within Coming of Age programs.

Soul Matters

Soul Matters is a collaborative sharing circle and resource provider for congregations doing theme-based ministry. We supply congregations with monthly packets that help them integrate our monthly themes across all of their ministries, including worship, small groups, children’s religious education, youth programming, family faith formation, welcoming teams and social media.
We also host meetings and offer systems by which subscribers can share ideas and resources with each other. While known for our unique model of spiritual discernment, our core commitment is to helping isolated congregations and overwhelmed leaders. We'd love to have you in our circle of connection and support!

UU Wellspring

Online UU Wellspring programs deepen Unitarian Universalist spiritual lives, leading to more joyful living, increased congregational leadership, and faithful justice making. UU Wellspring provides a year-long spiritual deepening program created specifically for Unitarian Universalists. Participants gather online, either in small groups from your congregation or with others across the continent to read, view and reflect on meaningful, heart-opening texts and videos. Moments of awe and wonder lead to personal and community transformation. You'll meet twice a month to explore and build your UU lens through spiritual practices, an exploration of UU history and theology, reflection and deep listening. A sense of life’s purpose and meaning emerges as UU Wellspring participants deepen faith and commitment to love and justice.
